Job Summary
Lead and manage MEP-focused construction projects at SpaceX’s Rocket Development Facility in McGregor, TX, overseeing planning, execution, and commissioning of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. Develop drawings and design documentation, negotiate and manage contracts with subcontractors, resolve on-site design and construction conflicts, coordinate with utility providers for reliable power, ensure safety and OSHA compliance, track contractor invoicing, and manage night/evening shifts as needed. Requires a Bachelor’s degree in engineering/architecture/construction management (3+ years field experience or 7+ years in lieu), strong knowledge of electrical/power distribution (<600V AC, 480V-120V, DC), HVAC and plumbing design, NEC/ASHRAE/NFPA/IECC/IBC familiarity, AutoCAD/Revit proficiency, and ability to handle multiple projects with extended hours; travel up to 15% and ITAR compliance. Responsibilities include leading the project team, issuing design documentation, managing contracts, coordinating with engineers/contractors, and maintaining safety standards on site.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, or construction management with 3+ years of field experience on construction projects, or 7+ years of equivalent professional experience in construction, engineering, or facilities management in lieu of a degree
Desired Qualifications
- Significant experience with electrical and power distribution systems (<600V AC), including 480V to 120V and DC systems
- Knowledge of HVAC operation and design principles (refrigeration, chillers, boilers, air-handling equipment)
- Experience with plumbing design and operation (domestic water, wastewater, venting, storm systems)
- Experience with critical power infrastructure (UPS, backup generators, ATS)
- Familiarity with NEC, ASHRAE, NFPA, IECC, and IBC codes
- Experience using AutoCAD or Revit
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with minimal supervision
- Strong attention to detail and systems-thinking
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, or construction management; 3+ years field experience or 7+ years equivalent experience
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement process design solutions with minimal impact to ongoing operations
- Ability to work extended hours and weekends when needed; travel up to 15%
- Experience in design, procurement, construction, and commissioning processes
