Construction Materials Testing Technician II

Job Summary
Receive, understand, and execute written and verbal directions while reviewing civil and structural plans to identify applicable sections. Perform tests, general construction inspections, and observations for soil, concrete, grout, mortar, and asphalt with little to no supervisor oversight. Submit daily field reports documenting testing, inspections, and observations, while communicating non-conforming items to project supervision. Maintain and calibrate assigned equipment, including operating a nuclear density gauge per safety guidelines, and demonstrate competency in One-Point Proctor testing and mortar/grout sampling. Transport, operate, and care for company vehicles while driving to sites within 100 miles. Work flexible schedules including nights, weekends, and early mornings to accommodate construction client needs.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 1 year of CMT experience
- ACI Concrete Certification
- ICC Soils Special Inspector certification
- Other relevant certifications
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Valid state of residence driver's license
- Ability to be insured under all applicable Corporation insurance policies and requirements
- Must pass relevant tests and/or achieve valid signatures
- Intermediate knowledge of sample preparation, collection & testing, field observations, and documentation of construction activities
- Ability to create and maintain accurate and confidential test records and to prepare easily understandable reports for documentation
- Skilled in the use of computers and common software applications
- Ability to learn company specific software and programs
- Ability to be trained and to follow directions
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships
- Ability to dress, speak and act professionally & appropriately
- Ability to deal with stressful situations, multiple priorities and hectic schedules calmly and courteously
- Ability to work ethically, honestly and safely at all times
- Must be able to move, lift or carry objects or materials up to 50 lbs. without assistance
- Ability to climb ladders and scaffolding
- Ability to physically maneuver construction sites and excavations
- Visual/hearing ability sufficient to comprehend written/verbal communications in the English language
- Ability to communicate directly and over the telephone and be understood
- Competency in reading detailed plans and specifications
- Competency in mortar and grout sampling and testing
- General knowledge of asphalt placement monitoring
- Understanding of Proctor Compaction Test and USCS Soil Classification
- Trained & demonstrated competency in One-Point Proctor testing in the field
- Must be able to accommodate a flexible working schedule
- Must have reliable transportation to and from the branch office at all hours of the day if needed
- Ability to drive a company vehicle and adhere to all company guidelines for operation and safety
- Must be available for NIGHT shift work
- Must be available for some WEEKEND work days
