Construction Materials Testing Technician I

Job Summary

Conduct sample preparation, collection, and testing for soil, concrete, grout, mortar, and asphalt while performing field observations and documenting construction activities. Review civil and structural specifications, submit daily field reports, and communicate non-conforming items to project supervision. Operate and maintain assigned equipment, including a nuclear density gauge, adhering to safety guidelines and radiation policies. Perform Proctor compaction tests and USCS soil classification assessments. Submit daily reports and manage test records while traveling to sites within 100 miles. Work flexible shifts including nights and weekends, with occasional out-of-town assignments.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 6 months experience
  • Current ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician certification
  • Must pass relevant tests and/or achieve valid signatures
  • Ability to create and maintain accurate and confidential test records
  • Skilled in the use of computers and common software applications
  • Ability to learn company specific software and programs
  • Ability to drive a company vehicle
  • Ability to adhere to all company guidelines for operation and safety
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships
  • Ability to dress, speak and act professionally & appropriately
  • Ability to deal with stressful situations, multiple priorities and hectic schedules calmly and courteously
  • Ability to work ethically, honestly and safely at all times
  • Must be able to move, lift or carry objects or materials up to 50 lbs. without assistance
  • Ability to climb ladders and scaffolding
  • Ability to physically maneuver construction sites and excavations
  • Visual/hearing ability sufficient to comprehend written/verbal communications in the English language
  • Ability to communicate directly and over the telephone and be understood
  • Possession of a valid state of residence driver's license
  • Ability to be insured under all applicable Corporation insurance policies and requirements
  • Must be available for NIGHT shift work
  • Must be available for some WEEKEND work days
  • Must be able to accommodate a flexible working schedule
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from the branch office at all hours of the day if needed
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Portable Nuclear Gauge Safety Training Certification
  • Understanding of Proctor Compaction Test and USCS Soil Classification
  • Trained & demonstrated competency in One-Point Proctor testing in the field
