Job Summary
Conduct field materials testing of soil, asphalt, masonry, and concrete at construction sites to verify work against project specifications. Prepare detailed field reports with test results and observations, inputting data directly into smart phones or tablets for immediate transmittal to Project Managers. Perform basic laboratory tests on soil and concrete while evaluating site and subgrade conditions to provide recommendations. Communicate with clients, contractors, and engineering staff regarding construction issues. Maintain ACI Level I Concrete, State DOT, or ICC certifications in soils, reinforced concrete, and masonry. Travel frequently to various locations, requiring a valid driver's license and good-standing driving record. Work independently in environments with frequent temperature changes, dust, and fumes, lifting up to 70 lbs. on a regular basis.
Required Qualifications
- 12+ months of relevant experience
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Some construction experience
- Prior experience in Field testing
- Maintenance of ACI Level I Concrete, State DOT, or ICC certifications in the disciplines of soils, reinforced concrete, and masonry
- Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to apply basic mathematical formulas and concepts to calculate quantities, estimate volumes, inspect constructed work, make recommendations in the field and to perform calculations for field and laboratory tests and equipment
- Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
- Ability to work independently and within cross-functional teams to achieve goals
- Excellent attention to details
- Valid driver's license and good-standing driving record
- Some travel will be required
- Must be willing to participate in and pass F&R's pre-employment screening including a background investigation, drug screening and driving record
- Ability to continuously stand and walk throughout the day
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 70 lbs. on a regular basis
- Ability to work outside in frequent changes of temperatures
- Ability to occasionally bend, squat, kneel, climb, push, and pull
- Ability to work in environments containing dust and fumes
- Ability to frequently drive to and from work sites
