Job Summary
Interpret plans, specifications, and schedules to resolve construction issues and minimize cost or time impacts. Monitor contractor progress, approve baseline schedules, change orders, and payment applications, while tracking RFIs and material submittals. Perform supplemental inspections to ensure compliance with project plans and specifications, prepare daily reports, and facilitate final project walk-throughs and closeout documentation. Act as the primary point of contact for clients and community stakeholders, addressing concerns and complaints regarding municipal, public works projects in the greater LA Metro area. This part-time role requires 20-30 hours weekly and involves travel to job sites. NV5 delivers engineering and consulting solutions to improve communities through infrastructure and utility services.
Required Qualifications
- BS Degree in Civil Engineering or related field
- 10+ years of experience and working knowledge of municipal/public works construction principles/practices including the latest edition of the Standard Specifications for Public Works Construction, Caltrans MUCTD, and Caltrans Construction Manual
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact with individuals in all levels of construction
- Ability to coordinate and manage multiple, complex projects
- Conflict Resolution - Ability to address an antagonistic situation and resolve issues amicably
- Safety Awareness - Ability to identify and correct conditions that affect employee safety
- Working knowledge of and basic proficiency with computer software, including MS Office, Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Working knowledge of construction scheduling software, including Microsoft Project and/or Primavera, as well as web-based Construction Management software
- Part-time hours between 20-30 hours weekly
- travel to the job site throughout the greater LA Metro area
Desired Qualifications
- CA professional engineering license a plus
- Preference given to candidates with professional licenses, inspection certificates, and extensive experience in street improvement, water, wastewater, and drainage projects
- Preference given to construction-related experience
- in the process of obtaining a Professional Engineering License and/or Project Management Certification, CMIT, CCM, and QSP/QSD Certification
