Job Summary
Construction Laborer at DSNY performs heavy-duty equipment operation and hands-on work across construction, repair, and maintenance of water supply and sewer systems, drainage work, brickwork/masonry, concrete mixing, excavation, shoring, and related tasks. The role may involve loading/unloading, record-keeping, and potential welding or use of various motor-powered equipment. Qualifications include three years of mechanical/construction experience or a two-year apprenticeship, plus NY CDL Class B (or Class D with Class B pending) and related permits. This is an entry-level, in-person position focused on public works maintenance and sanitation projects in New York City.
Required Qualifications
- Three years of satisfactory, full-time experience of a mechanical or construction nature
- Completion of a two-year apprenticeship for repair and maintenance of water supply distribution systems and sewer systems, including operation of motor vehicles and motor-powered equipment
- Possession of a New York State Class B Commercial Driver License or a New York State Class D Motor Vehicle Driver License and a valid New York State Learner's Permit for a Class B Commercial Driver License
- May be appointed subject to receipt of the Class B CDL within six months of appointment
- Employees must maintain the Class B CDL during employment
