Job Summary
Examine and interpret construction plans, schedules, and quantities while verifying work is performed safely and in accordance with project specifications. Support senior project inspectors in functional areas including construction inspection, surveying, and material sampling and testing. Perform standardized and non-standardized tests to compile, analyze, and process field data, ensuring accurate record-keeping and compliance with relevant codes and regulations. Adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and engage in responsible decision-making regarding company resources. This role requires working schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek, with occasional travel depending on project needs.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma
- 3 years of road and bridge construction inspection and testing experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
- The ability to attain the following certifications within 90 days +/- or as class scheduling allows: NCDOT Concrete Field Technician certification, NCDOT Conventional Density certification, Level II Erosion & Sediment Control/Storm water certification, NCDOT QMS Roadway Technician certification, NCDOT ABC and Borrow Pit Sampling certification
- Ability to keep accurate records and compute field data
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans
- General awareness of construction inspection principles, field inspection practices, process, methods and techniques
- General awareness of relevant construction codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a technical and non-technical audience
- Effective self-leadership with attention to detail, ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instruction, and comply with company policies
- Ability to work independently under supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives
- Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools
- Ability to perform physical activities required of the testing and inspection procedures including squatting, bending, lifting, climbing and traversing difficult terrain
- Good communication skills, both oral and written
- Basic computer skills
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
- Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek
- Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements
Desired Qualifications
- Associate's Degree in closely related discipline is preferred
