Job Summary
Inspect roadway, bridge, drainage, utility, and transportation construction projects while verifying work against plans, specifications, and IDOT standards. Coordinate with contractors, Resident Engineers, project managers, and agency representatives to resolve field issues and observe material testing. Document daily construction activities, maintain accurate project records, and measure completed quantities for contractor payment. Spend the majority of your time in the field with limited office documentation. This role supports major civil infrastructure projects throughout Northern Illinois by partnering with IDOT, municipalities, and public agencies to deliver quality transportation infrastructure.
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of construction inspection experience
- Experience working on IDOT, Illinois Tollway, CDOT, or municipal roadway projects
- Strong understanding of roadway, bridge, drainage, or utility construction
- Comfortable communicating with contractors and project stakeholders
- Strong documentation and computer skills (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Ability to make sound decisions in the field
- Must be based in Greater Chicago Area (Lisle, IL)
- Must be available for field work (Spend the majority of your time in the field)
Desired Qualifications
- DOT, transportation, or heavy civil experience
- IDOT documentation software experience
- CMMS, eBuilder, or similar construction management platforms
- Illinois Tollway project experience
- Resident Engineer experience
