Job Summary

Review plans, document work activities, and perform quantity calculations. Inspect field work to ensure conformance with approved plans and specifications, including office engineering tasks. Maintain a valid driver's license and possess a personal vehicle for site use. Stand for approximately three hours daily, up to eight hours, while traversing uneven construction ground and climbing ladders to platforms up to 20 feet. Wear required PPE including hard hats, safety vests, and work boots. Move equipment or specimens weighing up to 50 pounds. Work on NYSDOT highway and bridge projects across New York State regions.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid driver's license
  • Reliable vehicle
  • Read, write, and understand plans and directions given in the English language
  • Basic computer skills with the ability to create and edit Microsoft Word and Excel documents
  • Create Outlook emails
  • Utilize SharePoint
  • Utilize Microsoft Teams to communicate with other team members
  • Able to stand for approximately 3 hours minimum a day up to 8 hours
  • Able to traverse a construction job site consisting of uneven ground varying in height and consistency of material, with a variation of elevation 19" or less
  • Able to climb and leave a ladder to a platform varying from 6' to 20'
  • Able to wear and operate personal fall arresting apparatus, and work at a height of 6' or higher
  • Able to wear ITE required PPE, i.e., hard hats, safety vest, work boots, and/or safety glasses/goggles while working
  • Able to move equipment or inspection specimens weighing up to 50 pounds

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience working with NYSDOT Standard Specifications for Construction and Materials
  • Experience working with NYSDOT Manual of Uniform Record Keeping (MURK)
  • Standard industry certifications from NICET, ACI, NACE, NETTCP, or ATSSA
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • NYSDOT and/or locally administered Federal Aid project experience
  • Experience with NYSDOT Site Manager software
  • NICET II certification
  • NICET III certification
  • NICET IV certification
  • ACI Concrete Field Testing certification
  • ATSSA certification
  • NETTCP Soil & Aggregate certification
  • NACE Level 1 certification
  • SSPC C-1 certification
