Job Summary
Conduct field and office inspections to verify conformance with approved plans, specifications, and industry standards for NYSDOT Region 1 and Capital District projects. Review construction plans, technical documents, and project records for accuracy, then document inspection findings, daily activities, and work progress with precision. Perform quantity calculations, support material takeoffs, and utilize NYSDOT Site Manager software for data entry and reporting. Ensure adherence to NYSDOT Standard Specifications and the Manual of Uniform Record Keeping while collaborating with engineers and contractors to resolve technical issues. Maintain accurate inspection logs, reports, and field notes. Valid driver's license and reliable vehicle required; NICET certification preferred. Experience working in challenging field conditions, including heights up to 20 feet and uneven terrain, is essential.
Required Qualifications
- Valid driver's license and reliable personal vehicle
- NICET certification (II, III, or IV)
- NICET III/IV
- Proven experience in construction inspection of NYSDOT or federally funded highway and bridge projects
- Experience using NYSDOT Site Manager software
- Familiarity with NYSDOT Standard Specifications for Construction and Materials, and MURK guidelines
- Ability to work in challenging field conditions, including uneven terrain, variable elevations (up to 19" variation), and heights ranging from 6' to 20'
- Capability to wear and operate a personal fall arresting system when working at heights of 6' or more
- Ability to stand for up to 8 hours per day, including prolonged periods on construction sites
- Ability to climb ladders and platforms, and safely maneuver on job sites with mud, gravel, and rutted surfaces
- Ability to wear required PPE (hard hats, safety vests, work boots, safety glasses/goggles) and lift up to 50 pounds
Desired Qualifications
- NICET certification (II, III, or IV)
- Industry-recognized certifications in highway inspection: ACI Concrete Field Testing, ATSSA, NETTCP (Soil & Aggregate, HMA), OSHA, and WZTC
- Bridge painting certifications (NACE Level 1, AMPP, SSPC C-1)
