Job Summary
Understand project scope and local labor/material costs by reading blueprints, visiting job sites, and gathering first-hand data from subcontractors and suppliers. Determine key variables for cost estimates, conduct research on production times, and use software for data analysis, forecasting, and budgeting. Obtain and review vendor quotes, perform risk analysis for long-duration projects, and generate accurate bids to drive sales. Create and submit estimate reports to sales, project managers, and clients while managing RFPs, due dates, and billing information. Build relationships with key vendors and provide consultation on planning schedules and manpower needs. This role combines field and office work, requiring occasional long hours, frequent travel, and adherence to safety protocols.
Required Qualifications
- Must be proficient in Xactimate
- Proven experience as estimator or similar position
- Familiarity with financial and project management principles
- In depth knowledge of research and data analysis methods and estimation formulas
- Strong math and IT ability with an analytical mindset
- Outstanding communication and negotiation abilities
- Thoroughness and reliability
- Excellent organizational skills
- Analytical Thinking – ability to interpret complex data, identify cost drivers, and provide accurate estimates
- Attention to Detail – thoroughness in reviewing blueprints, specifications, and vendor proposals
- Communication – clear and professional interaction with clients, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders
- Time Management – ability to prioritize and manage multiple bids simultaneously under strict deadlines
- Technical Knowledge – proficiency in estimation software, construction methods, and industry best practices
- Collaboration – strong ability to build and maintain relationships with vendors, project teams, and clients
- Problem Solving – resourcefulness in resolving pricing challenges and project risks
- Must be able to lift materials
- Must be able to climb multiple stories
- Must be able to work outdoors in varied weather
