Job Summary
Assist in the planning, design, and execution of construction projects, ensuring adherence to engineering principles and specifications. Collaborate with senior engineers and project managers to develop schedules, cost estimates, and resource allocations. Conduct site assessments to ensure compliance with safety regulations, quality standards, and environmental guidelines. Monitor project progress, coordinate with contractors and suppliers, and prepare technical documentation including drawings, reports, and permits. Provide support in inspections, testing, and evaluations while participating in team meetings to discuss risks and next steps. This role requires travel to project sites across Northwest Illinois counties and involves continuous updates on industry trends and best practices.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or a related field
- Valid driver's license
- Ability to travel to project sites as needed
- Basic knowledge of construction methods, materials, and safety standards
- Familiarity with engineering drawings, specifications, and project documentation
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
- Ability to follow direction and work collaboratively with senior engineers, contractors, and project teams
- Good organizational and time-management skills
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- 0–2 years of experience in construction engineering, field engineering, or related entry-level roles (internship or co-op experience may be considered)
- Exposure to construction projects such as roadways, bridges, utilities, or site development is preferred
- Familiarity with state or municipal transportation agencies
- Knowledge of construction inspection, quantity tracking, or materials testing
- OSHA 10 certification or willingness to obtain
Desired Qualifications
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification preferred
