Job Summary
Investigate, evaluate, reserve, and resolve assigned Specialty Liability claims for bodily injury and property damage, ensuring full compliance with internal standards and state regulations. Directly handle claims through prompt contact with policyholders, claimants, and technical experts to determine liability and damages, while utilizing diary management systems and creating Claim File Analysis. Negotiate dispositions with insureds and legal representatives, manage litigated cases including discovery and legal expenses, and attend depositions and trials as needed. Provide consulting and training resources to the field, mentor less experienced professionals, and develop creative resolution strategies to improve claim results. Potential for 30% travel required.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree
- 5 years business experience
- Advanced level knowledge and skill in claim and litigation
- Basic working level knowledge and skill in various business line products
- Strong negotiation and customer service skills
- Skilled in coverage, liability and damages analysis
- Thorough understanding of the litigation process
- Relevant case and statutory law knowledge
- Expert litigation management skills
- Extensive claim and/or legal experience
- Technical expertise to evaluate severe and complex claims
- Ability to make independent decisions on most assigned cases without involvement of supervisor
- Openness to the ideas and expertise of others
- Active solicitation of input and sharing of ideas
- Thorough understanding of commercial lines products
- Understanding of policy language, exclusions, ISO forms, and effective claims handling practices
- Demonstrated coaching, influence and persuasion skills
- Advanced written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to understand, synthesize, interpret and convey complex data and information to audiences with varying levels of expertise
- Ability to adapt to and support cultural change
- Strong technology aptitude
