Job Summary
Deliver and facilitate instruction in Construction Technology courses, meeting all scheduled classes, labs, and clinics for the allotted time. Assess students' mastery of course content, provide continuous feedback, and maintain records as required by academic offices and the Assessment Coordinator. Collaborate with the Department Chair on curriculum development, assessment, and classroom-based research while supporting departmental recruiting efforts. Schedule and maintain on-campus activities including course planning, student advising, and general office hours. Maintain working knowledge of the college's administrative student management software and Moodle system. Participate with college committees and events as requested, including activities scheduled outside designated class hours.
Required Qualifications
- AA/AS – Construction Technology or five years' experience in residential or commercial construction
- Minimum two years field experience
- Michigan Residential Builders License
- Knowledge and/or experience in curriculum development and instructing students individually and in groups
- Knowledge or experience in alternative teaching strategies such as group projects, hands-on learning, practical applications, computer assisted instruction, distance learning or team-teaching
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Proven ability to work collaboratively with others
- college and departmental committee experience
- Knowledge or experience working with people of diverse backgrounds, abilities, and needs
- Knowledge or experience in working with Native Americans, in an educational setting
- Knowledge of safe use for all associated construction equipment, including the use of personal protection equipment (PPE)
- Ability to lift, move, push, and pull from 50-100 pounds, with a partner of assistive equipment
- Ability to bend, reach above shoulder level, kneel, and push/pull
- Ability to sit for periods of time, reaching, manipulating objects with hands, shoveling, reaching, and walking while carrying objects
- Maintain working knowledge of the BMCC administrative student management software system as it relates to classroom management and the advising of students
- Maintain working knowledge of the Moodle system
- Ability to work outside, while exposed to all types of weather conditions
Desired Qualifications
- Experience working and/or teaching in Tribal communities is preferred, specifically at a tribal college
- OSHA certification is preferred
