Job Summary
The Patient Sitter/Observer provides continuous observation of patients at risk for falls, self-harm, elopement, or other safety concerns, ensuring a safe environment and promptly reporting changes in condition or behavior to nursing staff. Working under the direction of an RN, this role supports patient care plans, remains engaged and vigilant throughout shifts, and may also serve as a Tele-Sitter Monitor Technician, using remote video monitoring technology to observe patients and alert staff to potential safety risks. Duties include observing patients, reporting changes to professional staff, cleaning/straightening patient rooms, assisting with turning/repositioning to prevent pressure ulcers, using bed/chair alarms for fall prevention, and documenting activities on the observation flow sheet. Qualifications emphasize communication, customer service, and understanding of human behavior; MOAB training within 180 days of hire, followed by every 2 years; BLS & First Aid within 180 days; and mandatory reporter training for child and dependent adult abuse. Required Qualifications
- H.S. Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
- MOAB training within 180 days of hire, then every 2 years
- Basic Cardiac Life Support & First Aid - American Heart Association within 180 Days
- Child Abuse Iowa Mandatory Reporter - Iowa Department of Human Services within 180 Days
- Dependent Adult Abuse Mandatory Reporter - Iowa Department of Human Services within 180 Days
