Job Summary
The Constant Observer assists with general nursing care and patient monitoring under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse to protect patients from self-harm and ensure safety at the bedside. Responsibilities include observing patients at all times, recording intake on a paper flow sheet, accompanying patients during tests, supporting daily living activities provided by the RN/CNA/UAP, promoting teamwork, recognizing when to activate emergency measures, resolving conflicts constructively, engaging with patients to increase engagement, maintaining confidentiality, and accurately documenting interventions. Requires maintaining a calm, clean environment and caring for patients across all ages under nursing staff direction. Knowledge of safety measures, effective communication with patients and staff, and strong patient-centered attitude are essential.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent preferred
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification/Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) required within 3 months of hire
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention required within 6 months of hire
