Job Summary
Operate the Rolm console to relay incoming calls and in-house pages, while monitoring alarms and equipment. Function as the communications center during emergencies, handling public inquiries with a pleasant telephone manner. Perform clerical duties and minor telephone repairs, utilizing word processing skills to support operations. Maintain a fast-paced environment under pressure, covering other shifts as needed. This role supports St. Catherine of Siena Hospital's error reduction initiatives and High Reliability journey within a 290-bed community facility in Smithtown, NY.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or G.E.D.
- Rolm console experience or similar switchboard/telephone experience
- Experience dealing with the public
- Must be able to type 35 wpm
- Computer and word processing experience
- Must be able to learn new technological equipment and services and incorporate into job
- Pleasant telephone manner and speaking voice
- Good front desk, reception, and telephone skills
- Must be able to work under pressure in a fast paced environment
- Be available to cover other shifts as needed
