Job Summary
Conservation Wetland Specialists will restore, protect, and enhance wetlands on private lands in Iowa under ACEP-WRE and CRP, working as part of CDI NRCS Easement Team to deliver program objectives. Responsibilities include coordinating with landowners and the easement team to develop applications, conservation management plans, compatible use authorizations, and restoration/stewardship plans; conducting on-site and off-site monitoring; providing technical assistance and consultation to easement holders; and developing skills in wetland restoration and habitat management to support wildlife benefits under ACEP-WRE and CRP. The role requires clear communication, independent work, outdoor field duties, knowledge of wildlife ecology and wetland management, basic land surveying concepts, familiarity with GPS/ArcGIS, and proficiency with Microsoft Office. Travel, overnight and evening work may be required; a valid driver's license is required, and ability to obtain USDA Federal Security Clearance is needed.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Conservation Ecology or closely related natural resources field
- 1-year related field experience in wetland or wildlife habitat development and management
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, ArcGIS or USDA Conservation Desktop
- Valid driver’s license; may require use of personal vehicle (mileage reimbursed)
- Ability to communicate clearly with landowners and partner agencies
- Ability to work independently with little supervision
- Ability to work outdoors in wetland environments
- Knowledge of wildlife ecology and wetland management
- Knowledge of basic land survey principles and use of GPS/laser-planes
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to obtain USDA Federal Security Clearance
