Job Summary

Conservation Ecologist leading a statewide private-land monitoring program in Victoria, delivering hands-on ecological fieldwork, data analytics, and collaboration with landholders and practitioners. Role focuses on establishing and coordinating a large-scale citizen science program, collecting and interpreting biodiversity data, and integrating private-land conservation data into Trust for Nature’s work. Combines field monitoring, data analysis, and conservation technologies with program coordination and capability building; involves travel across Victoria and a hybrid work model (in-office and work-from-home). Requires a strong technical background in ecological monitoring, data analysis, and experience with automated workflows and AI-based data processing, plus the ability to work with landholders and internal teams to build capability in ecological monitoring and data use.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in conservation, ecology or environmental science
  • Honours or Masters degree in ecology or similar, or equivalent experience
  • Experience in ecological monitoring and substantial fieldwork, including use of conservation technologies
  • Strong data analysis skills, including automated workflows and AI-based data processing such as call or image recognition
  • Experience managing and working with large ecological datasets
