Job Summary
Conduct activity assessments through patient observation and interviews to determine needs, skills, and interests for treatment planning. Plan, organize, and implement therapeutic leisure programs including sports, dance, music, art, and relaxation techniques to improve patient mental and physical well-being. Facilitate activity sessions, instruct patients in specific techniques, and engage them in exercise, games, and community outings to foster independence and social skills. Modify activities to suit specific group needs while maintaining a positive, empathetic attitude and prioritizing patient safety. Resolve patient complaints and address unmet needs promptly. Requires a Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation, three years of healthcare recreation experience, and CTRS or specialty certification.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Recreational Therapy or related field
- Three or more years' experience in recreation in a healthcare setting with knowledge of patient population served by the facility
- Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) or currently in the process of obtaining national certification
- certified in the area of specialty (Art, Dance, Music, etc.)
- clinical professional licensure (LCPC, LPC, etc.) with certification in expressive therapy area
- CPR and de-escalation and restraint certification

- Previous experience in recreation in a healthcare setting
