Job Summary
Connector & Interconnect Design Engineer needed to own the full lifecycle of custom electrical interfaces from concept and CAD modeling to drawings, testing, and supplier coordination. This role sits at the intersection of mechanical and electrical engineering, requiring 3D CAD-driven design for manufacturability, and validation to real-world performance. You will own connector programs end-to-end, collaborate with EE/mechanical/manufacturing teams to deliver housing, overmold, contact, and interface solutions, perform power calculations and signal integrity checks, develop validation plans (mating cycles, pull-out force, vibration, thermal cycling, environmental exposure), and maintain documentation, BOMs, and revision history in PLM systems. The position demands hands-on prototyping, bench troubleshooting, and coordination with external suppliers/contract manufacturers across the full development cycle.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field
- 5+ years of experience in connector design, electromechanical packaging, or interconnect engineering
- Strong 3D CAD proficiency (CATIA, SolidWorks, Creo, or equivalent)
- Demonstrated experience designing custom components: housings, overmolds, contacts, or electromechanical assemblies
- Ability to create complete, manufacturing-ready 2D drawings with proper GD&T
- Solid understanding of connector electrical fundamentals: current rating, contact resistance, derating, and power dissipation
- Experience developing validation test plans and executing qualification testing
- Comfortable working with external suppliers and contract manufacturers across the full development cycle
