Job Summary
Review and analyze complex conflicts reports involving new clients, matters, lateral attorneys, and attorney mobility to identify legal, ethical, and business conflicts. Interpret applicable Rules of Professional Conduct, evaluate corporate affiliations and client relationships, and prepare written legal analyses and recommendations regarding complex conflicts matters. Advise attorneys and Firm leadership on conflicts of interest, professional responsibility obligations, confidentiality, and ethical walls, recommending appropriate resolution strategies including waivers, informed consent, or declining representations. Collaborate with recruiting, business professionals, and IT to facilitate timely conflict resolutions, review conflict waivers and engagement letters, and coordinate access restrictions. Maintain confidentiality while handling sensitive client and Firm information, and participate in special projects related to conflicts, ethics, and risk management.
Required Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
- Active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
- Eligibility to register as in-house counsel in Texas if not licensed in Texas
- Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible legal experience in conflicts, professional responsibility, ethics, risk management, or law firm operations
Desired Qualifications
- Active license to practice law in Texas
- Experience reviewing conflicts of interest, client intake, lateral attorney conflicts, ethical walls, and professional responsibility matters within a law firm
- Strong knowledge of conflicts of interest, legal ethics, and professional responsibility rules, including the Texas Disciplinary Rules of Professional Conduct
- Experience interpreting ethics rules and providing practical legal guidance to attorneys and Firm leadership
- Experience with law firm conflicts and intake systems; experience with Intapp or similar software
