Job Summary
Comply with federal, state, and railroad safety regulations while operating track switches and coordinating train movement via oral, written, hand, lantern, or radio signals. Evaluate and complete assigned work safely, inspect equipment for compliance, and apply hand brakes to control railcar movement. Climb on and off locomotives, walk train lengths, connect air hoses and electrical components, and utilize basic computer skills for electronic reporting. Work outdoors in all weather conditions on 12-hour shifts within a 24/7 environment, including nights, holidays, weekends, and on-call rotations. Requires a valid driver's license, high school diploma, and ability to lift 75 pounds. Pre-employment physical, hearing, and vision reviews are mandatory, along with drug screening and background checks. Full-time employment (40+ hours weekly) with no relocation assistance offered.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED; or an equivalent combination of education and/or work experience
- Valid driver's license
- At least 18 years of age
- Must live within 50 miles of assigned location or be willing to relocate
- Must meet vision requirements (including color)
- Able to lift up to 75 pounds from floor to waist and carry short distances
- Able to squat, bend and lift overhead
- Have good balance and coordination
- Must meet pre-employment physical, hearing, and vision medical review
- Subject to federally mandated drug and alcohol testing including pre-employment drug screening
- Background screening including criminal and motor vehicle driving history
Desired Qualifications
- 2+ years of related or relevant work experience is a plus
- Experience working in a safety-sensitive environment is a plus
