Job Summary
Conduct safe and efficient rail car switching services on customer sites or terminals by operating switches, derails, and coupling rail cars while ensuring locomotive safety through daily inspections and clear job briefings. Apply CROR Non-Main Track rules and switching procedures, manage air hoses and handbrakes, and promptly report any equipment, track, or safety problems. Complete daily reports, logs, and documentation while maintaining a clean, tidy interior of vehicles and offices. Work up to 12-hour shifts in all weather conditions across day and night rotations, seven days a week, supporting all on-site operations with strong teamwork and customer service.
Required Qualifications
- Grade 12 or GED
- Class 5 drivers license
- Ability to obtain and maintain required qualifications and safety critical medical clearances
- Ability to pass a criminal background check
- Ability to pass customer and Cando drug and alcohol screening for pre-employment, post incident, and reasonable grounds testing
- Previous industrial workplace or equipment operations experience
- Previous rail experience
- Working knowledge of technology and computer systems
- Willingness to use Excel, Outlook, and other web-based applications on a daily basis
- Strong problem solving and decision-making abilities
- Excellent teamwork and strong customer service skills
- Ability to read and write general documentation
- Physically fit, able to pull self-up and down from a railcar on a continuous basis
- Ability to lift and twist air hoses
- Ability to secure rail car brakes, derails, and switches
- Willingness to work up to 12 hours per shift in all weather conditions
- Willingness to work day and night shifts
- Willingness to work seven days a week
- Willingness to work 365 days a year
