Job Summary
Conduct safe and efficient rail car switching services by operating as a locomotive engineer or grounds person, including coupling and uncoupling cars, managing air hoses, and applying handbrakes. Ensure safe operation through clear job briefings, daily locomotive inspections, brake tests, and equipment checks. Provide protection for trains, tracks, and equipment while complying with all operating rules and regulations. Complete daily reports and logs, maintain a clean interior, and actively participate in team initiatives to maximize efficiency and safety.
Required Qualifications
- Ability to read and write general documentation including safety briefings, policy and procedure manuals, and switching lists
- Physically fit including the ability to pull self up and down from a railcar on a continuous basis
- Ability to lift and twist air hoses
- Ability to secure rail car brakes
- Ability to operate both derails and switches effectively
- Knowledge with technology and computer systems with a willingness to use Excel and Outlook on a daily basis
- Ability to obtain necessary certification
- Ability to pass Drug/Alcohol and medical clearances
Desired Qualifications
- Experience as a Locomotive Operator and/or Switchperson
- Previous experience in a customer oriented environment
