Computational Biologist (m/f/d) - Genome Editing Trait Discovery

Job Summary
Contribute biological expertise to the development and validation of AI-supported candidate gene discovery approaches by identifying, analyzing, and interpreting complex multi-omics datasets. Drive the prioritization and nomination of candidate genes for genome editing applications while acting as a scientific bridge between biology, breeding, bioinformatics, and data science teams. Evaluate emerging computational methods to increase the speed and scalability of trait discovery, collaborating with data science teams to transition novel approaches into scalable workflows. Lead scientific projects focused on candidate gene ranking methodologies and knowledge discovery platforms.
Required Qualifications
- PhD in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Plant Science, Data Science or a related discipline
- Strong experience in the analysis and interpretation of large-scale biological datasets, including genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, or other omics data
- Proven expertise in applying Data Mining, machine learning, and/or AI-driven methodologies for candidate gene identification and prioritization
- Good understanding of plant biology, plant breeding, genetics, genome editing, or trait development processes
- Experience with programming and scientific data analysis tools (e.g., Python, R, workflow environments)
- Fluent written and spoken English
Desired Qualifications
- Proven experience in leading scientific or R&D projects is a plus
- Entrepreneurial thinking and passion for innovation with a track record of developing novel solutions to scientific challenges
- Ability to effectively influence, collaborate, and drive outcomes across multidisciplinary teams in a matrix environment
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- German is a plus
