Composite Engineer

Job Summary
Design and analyze composite race car components across Team Penske racing series; select and specify appropriate composite materials based on performance, durability, and manufacturability; perform structural calculations, FEA, and simulations to ensure integrity and safety; develop manufacturing plans and collaborate with shop floor personnel to ensure designs are practical; generate detailed engineering drawings, laminate specifications, and supporting documentation; create and execute test/validation plans; review composite repair procedures; stay current with emerging composite technologies and manufacturing techniques to drive continuous improvement; manage the engineering composite materials database (prepregs, cores, adhesives, compliance); partner with OEMs to review designs and validate manufacturing processes; research advanced materials for new motorsports applications; troubleshoot material failures or process inefficiencies by identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions; collaborate with technical partners for performance in reviews and marketing events.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field
- 1–5 years of professional experience in composite design, manufacturing, or engineering
- Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling and surfacing, experience with Siemens NX is a plus
- Strong analytical skills and familiarity with structural analysis methods
- Hands-on understanding of composite manufacturing techniques and shop processes
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work across technical and non-technical groups
- Detail-oriented, organized, and committed to continuous improvement
