Job Summary
Develop policies and procedures for ethics, export control, sanctions, and anti-corruption; conduct internal investigations of compliance issues and oversee hotline monitoring. Advise the People Team and business partners on employment law matters across the employee lifecycle, including hiring, performance management, accommodations, and terminations. Manage employment-related claims, demand letters, arbitrations, and litigation involving commercial contracts, vendors, intellectual property, and privacy issues. Draft, review, and update employment agreements and policies while monitoring emerging legal developments, including AI-related risks. Collaborate with internal stakeholders and outside counsel to assess legal risk and develop scalable processes that reduce litigation risk and support global operations across the United States, Canada, and Latin America.
Required Qualifications
- J.D. from an accredited law school and licensed to practice law
- 5+ years of legal experience, including significant compliance, employment and/or litigation experience
- Strong judgment and ability to provide practical, business-oriented legal advice
- A problem-solving mentality, willing to make a call and be an active decision maker
- Orientation towards process and operations, and ability to spot and act on improvements to systems, standards, templates, policies and practices that help reduce risk, remove friction, and propel the business
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to independently manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Ability and willingness to work across time zones as needed; some travel may be required
Desired Qualifications
- Strong preference for prior in-house experience
- Experience supporting a high-growth technology or SaaS company
- Experience advising on employment matters in Canada and/or Latin America
- Experience handling commercial disputes, contract disputes, vendor disputes, intellectual property matters, privacy-related disputes, or bankruptcy matters
- Understanding and experience handling complex e-discovery issues
- Experience working in a globally distributed organization
