Job Summary
Companion provides companionship to clients in the home setting without rendering hands-on care. Responsibilities include listening, reading to the client, supervising the environment, verbal communication, recognizing life-threatening situations and acting per protocol, offering emotional support, accompanying the client to outside appointments, light housekeeping (meal preparation, laundering client clothing), casual cosmetic assistance (hair brushing, makeup application, nail care), stabilizing the client when walking, maintaining chronological written records of services, reporting unusual incidents to the registered nurse, maintaining confidentiality, timely submission of required documentation, and attaining quarterly goals set by the DON. The role reports directly to the registered nurse clinician and offers flexible scheduling with compensation between $13 and $17 per hour, with opportunities for higher-paying assignments based on client needs and caregiver qualifications.
Required Qualifications
- Completion of at least the ninth-grade level of secondary education preferred.
- Documentation on file of having received, training in topics related to human development and interpersonal relationships, nutrition, marketing, food storage, use of equipment and supplies, planning and organizing of household tasks, and principles of cleanliness and safety.
- Minimum of 18 years of age.
- Demonstrates maturity and a sincere interest in the client.
- Demonstrates good personal grooming and health habits.
- Must have reliable transportation.
- Demonstrates mental acuity high enough to write, read, and adequately communicate with clients.
