Job Summary
Develops and delivers fire and life safety educational programs to communities, schools, businesses, and organizations. Analyzes risk factors to create curricula and presents programs, coordinates outreach events, and collaborates with the Community Risk Reduction team to implement and evaluate initiatives. Creates, edits, and distributes curricular and administrative materials; maintains data and reports; communicates with the public and partners; offers safety education and resources, and supports program evaluation. Requires strong public speaking, instructional design, and ability to adapt content to diverse audiences, plus proficiency with Microsoft Office, presentation software, and AV equipment. The role involves occasional evening/weekend work and collaboration with other districts and departments to promote safety education and risk reduction.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in education, marketing, fire science, or a related field is required.
- Minimum of three (3) years of professional experience as an educator or trainer or public relations/marketing experience with extensive public speaking background is required.
- NFPA Wildfire Mitigation Specialist Certification is preferred.
- Possess and maintain the following certifications within one (1) year from the date of hire: Basic CPR/First Aid/AED, Youth Firesetter Intervention Specialist I, Fire & Life Safety Educator I.
- Possess and maintain the Fire & Life Safety Educator II certification within three (3) years from the date of hire.
- Possess and maintain a valid Colorado Driver’s license and an acceptable driving record in accordance with SMFR’s Driving Records Policy.
