Job Summary
Lead media relations and community outreach for The Salvation Army Austin, serving as the chief spokesperson and Public Information Officer for disaster services. Manage all public relations functions, including writing press releases, designing promotional materials, and coordinating media advertisements across radio, television, and print. Cultivate partnerships with local nonprofits, schools, and civic organizations while identifying volunteers and sponsors to drive fundraising growth. Supervise assigned staff, train employees on media procedures, and evaluate the effectiveness of public relations strategies. Represent the organization at special events, conduct presentations for community groups, and respond to negative publicity during crises. Maintain a database of media contacts and prepare annual reports to keep donors and the public informed.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Public Relations, Communication or a related field
- At least four years progressively responsible experience managing a public relations program
- Valid State Drivers License
- Ability to read, write and communicate in the English language effectively
- Ability to work under the pressure of deadlines and time constraints
- Ability to speak before large groups in person, by radio and television
- Ability and willingness to conduct all duties in accordance with the ministry of the organization and its Christian principles
