Job Summary
Promote Medicare benefits and HICAP services to beneficiaries and families throughout San Mateo County by developing outreach work plans and coordinating events and presentations with local businesses, community partners, and congregations. Distribute materials in appropriate languages, identify media partners for underserved communities, and recruit and train registered counselors as Community Educators while overseeing their internship phases and technical assistance. Maintain volunteer lists, enter Public and Media Activity Reports in the SHARP system monthly, and participate in roundtables and training sessions to ensure program compliance. Substitute for registered counselors and community educators when needed.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent training
- At least two years of experience working in senior and disability services
- Must complete HICAP counselor training and/or registration within 3 to 6 months of employment
- Sensitive to the needs of the elderly and adults with disabilities from diverse ethnic and minority cultures
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Must pass a strength test for physical fitness for the job: 25 lbs from floor to waist, 20 lbs from waist to shoulder, and 10 lbs from floor to overhead
- Proficient in MS Office and the Internet
- Must have and maintain a valid CA driver license
- Satisfactory driving record
- Auto insurance coverage as specified in Self-Help's policy
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in outreach and marketing
- Knowledge of Medicare, Medi-Cal, MediGap, managed care, long-term care insurance, and health care delivery systems
- Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
- Experience in group presentations
- Bilingual in English and Chinese/Spanish
