Job Summary
Community Harm Reduction Specialists will work on a field-based outreach team in Midtown Manhattan, meeting with homeless individuals who use substances to engage and connect them to housing, health, SUD and mental health services. Responsibilities include teaching harm reduction skills (Narcan training), providing fentanyl test strips, building rapport, crisis intervention, completing documentation (tracking sheets, progress notes, reports), and participating in community events. The role emphasizes street-outreach, non-judgmental engagement, and collaboration with the Chemical Dependency Crisis Center (CDCC) and other providers.
Required Qualifications
- CRPA (Certified recovery peer advocate)
- knowledge of harm reduction
- 2 years’ experience in a harm reduction setting (naloxone champion, needle exchange program, harm reduction drop-in centers)
- basic computer skills
- impeccable boundaries
- willingness to be trained in first aid, CPR and train the trainer for NARCAN
