Job Summary

The CERT Coordinator will lead the Fort Bend County CERT program and collaborate with the Houston UASI regional preparedness program. Responsibilities include developing and implementing community preparedness and training programs, managing volunteer initiatives (including Medical Reserve Corps and related groups), producing stakeholder reports and outreach materials, coordinating budgeting and grants, and serving as a Section Chief in the EOC during disasters. The role requires coordinating training and volunteer services to support county citizens and regional readiness, plus facilitating public awareness through presentations and published materials.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree from accredited university with preferred degree in Public Administration, Urban Planning, Emergency Management, or a directly related field; OR 4 years of directly applied experience in any of the disciplines above may substitutes for the degree requirement
  • One year of related work experience in research, planning, public information, program administration, or resource management
  • Knowledge of planning methods, plan formulation, coordination techniques, and project management strategies
  • Ability to use a wide range of software applications including Microsoft Office Suite
  • Good verbal and written communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work outside normal hours during emergencies
  • Emergency Management coursework desirable; NIMS/ICS Professional Development Series completed within 90 days of hire
  • Valid driver’s license issued by the state of Texas for operation of county vehicles
