Job Summary
Community-Based Research Assistant responsibilities include overseeing all research project activities and conducting data collection for a randomized controlled trial at the St. Joseph County courthouse. Responsibilities encompass screening eligibility, obtaining informed consent, conducting structured quantitative surveys, providing referrals to health and social services, and randomizing participants to the peer-led court navigation intervention group. The role requires managing participant incentives, maintaining logs, operating a computerized data collection program (CAPI) on a laptop, ensuring IRB compliance, and collaborating with the Court Navigator/Certified Peer Recovery Coach. The position is grant-term limited (summer 2026 start, winter 2027 end), full-time (40 hours/week), with local site-based work at the courthouse, Monday–Friday 8 am–4 pm, no overnight travel expected. Ideal candidate has experience with data collection, trauma-informed practices, and engagement with justice-involved individuals, and possesses strong interpersonal skills and attention to detail.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant field (preferred)
- One (1) year of experience coordinating research and/or data collection
- One (1) year of experience working with marginalized populations (justice-involved, people who use drugs, or with mental health concerns)
- Experience using computerized data collection programs (preferred)
- Background clearance required
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Access, Word, Outlook, Excel)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and maintain confidentiality
- Ability to work with others in office and field settings
