Job Summary
Conduct emergency and routine service requests by answering multiple telephone lines within three rings, prioritizing calls, and providing accurate ETA estimates within 60 seconds of initial receipt. Coordinate helicopter, ground ambulance, and fixed-wing activations by relaying caller information to medical staff, 911 centers, and transfer facilities while maintaining professional demeanor. Remain on console during all transport progressions, documenting events in electronic dispatch software and utilizing two-way radios, mapping resources, and support equipment for dissemination. Maintain familiarity with service areas, trauma systems, and FCC regulations while participating in department meetings, reviewing minutes, and assisting with staff education.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- IAMTCS certificate required within 1 year from date of hire
- Two way radio proficiency
- Skilled in multi-line phone systems
- Ability to respond quickly and prioritize duties in a rapidly changing environment while maintaining a professional demeanor
- Excellent written and verbal interpersonal communication skills primarily via e-mail and phone
- Basic map reading skills
- Intermediate knowledge of MS Office and general computer skills
- Emergency Medical Technician a plus
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs
Desired Qualifications
- Two years experience in police, fire, or medical emergency dispatch preferred
- Previous air medical dispatch experience strongly preferred
- Medical Terminology knowledge
