Job Summary

Interview staff and community members to identify compelling stories, then capture photos or video, write news releases, and serve as a spokesperson for media inquiries. Create written and visual content for digital, print, and email channels across 18 social media platforms while collaborating with subject matter experts to ensure accuracy. Coordinate seasonal communications campaigns, monitor community conversations, and respond to public and media inquiries promptly. Adjust strategies based on data-driven insights and facilitate document translation requests. Perform special projects as assigned and act as a mandatory reporter for child abuse incidents.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate's degree or equivalent 2 years college coursework
  • Three (3) years of professional experience in writing, communications, and social media management
  • Any satisfactory combination of education, experience and training
  • Valid Oregon driver's license within 30 days with an acceptable driving history as defined by district driving policy
  • Ability to travel to event locations and District facilities in, around, or outside the greater Bend area
  • Ability to periodically work evenings, weekends, and holiday hours as well as on emergency notice for support to critical district services
  • Ability to push, pull, lift or carry up to 30 pounds
  • Ability to work and maintain focus in a work environment with moderate noise
  • Ability to work outdoors including exposure to inclement weather including heat, cold, humidity, wind, snow, and rain
  • Ability to stand and walk over uneven terrain such as parks and trails
  • Ability to crouch, bending, kneeling, sitting, reaching, setting-up and tearing-down activities
  • Ability to make substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers
  • Manual dexterity and coordination; daily precise control of fingers and hand movements while operating computer keyboard, telephone and standard office equipment
  • Ability to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word
  • Ability to convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other works accurately, loudly or quickly
  • Strong Knowledge of Business English and Associated Press writing skills, spelling, punctuation, and grammar
  • Strong Knowledge of Applicable laws, codes, regulations, policies, and procedures for copy communications, copyright, accessibility, and algorithms used by social media platforms
  • Strong Knowledge of Research techniques and proofreading
  • Strong Knowledge of Social media platforms and functionality
  • Strong Knowledge of Data reporting analysis tools to inform strategies and future efforts
  • Strong Knowledge of Photography technique and photo database management
  • Strong Knowledge of Office administrative processes, procedures and functions
  • Strong Knowledge of Relevant district programs, services, and facilities
  • Some knowledge of Website content management system
  • Some knowledge of Basic video production and editing
  • Some knowledge of Basic graphic design programs such as Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Express, LightRoom, PhotoShop and/or Canva) and/or Canva
  • Some knowledge of Project management skills, with the ability to lead multiple projects and influence peers on a work team
  • Some knowledge of Spokesperson role and responsibilities and media relations best practices
  • Skill and Ability to Effectively communicate with others verbally and in writing, including by phone, e- mail or in person
  • Skill and Ability to Collaborate across departments and maintain timelines and deliverables relying on participation of others
  • Skill and Ability to Work independently while also able to work cooperatively with others
