Job Summary
The Commis Pastry Chef supports the pastry kitchen in delivering high-quality desserts, pastries, and bakery items in a safe, efficient, and hygienic environment. The role assists in the preparation, baking, and presentation of pastry products while maintaining the standards and values of the hotel. The successful candidate will report to the Sous/Exec Chef in a permanent position with a minimum guarantee of 30 hours per week, and an hourly rate between $29-$33. Availability to work across day, night, and weekend shifts is required. Responsibilities include assisting in the preparation, baking, and finishing of desserts, pastries, breads, and other baked goods; maintaining high standards of quality, consistency, and presentation; working within the pastry section as directed by senior chefs; minimizing wastage through careful preparation and stock control; maintaining a clean, organized, and hygienic pastry workspace; following standard recipes and SOPs; supporting a learning and professional environment; ensuring proper storage and labeling in line with food safety standards; maintaining personal grooming and collaborating with kitchen and service teams; developing knowledge of pastry techniques, ingredients, and trends; complying with hotel policies and WH&S guidelines; and carrying out other duties as directed by senior kitchen staff. Preferred qualifications include Le Cordon Bleu training with a Grand diploma and breakfast buffet experience or bread-making experience. The role is hourly with a fixed start in NZ, located at QT Wellington, Te Aro, Wellington, New Zealand.
