Job Summary
Prepare and manage utility interconnection applications for commercial solar and solar + storage projects, ranging from 50 kW to 2 MW. Review utility requirements, study comments, and technical feedback while coordinating deliverables such as single-line diagrams, relay settings, and metering details. Interface directly with NYSEG, RG&E, National Grid, and AHJs to navigate protection requirements and commissioning activities. Track project milestones, identify technical risks, and manage witness testing and Permission to Operate processes. Continuously improve interconnection standards and workflows. This role is ideal for a technically minded professional solving complex electrical power system problems to become an expert in utility interconnection.
Required Qualifications
- Experience with commercial distributed generation interconnection
- Working knowledge of utility application requirements and approval processes
- Ability to interpret single-line diagrams, electrical plans, protection requirements, and metering configurations
- Familiarity with battery energy storage systems (BESS) and their impact on utility review and controls
- Strong technical writing and documentation skills
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Desired Qualifications
- Commercial solar projects (50 kW–2 MW)
- NYSEG, RG&E, National Grid, or other New York utility territories
- CESIR studies, supplemental review, relay coordination, witness testing, and PTO documentation
- Understanding of IEEE 1547, distributed generation interconnection standards, and utility protection philosophy
