Job Summary
Commercial Plan Examiner position with Grand Traverse County focusing on reviewing commercial building plans and related documents to ensure compliance with codes and ordinances. Responsibilities include reviewing sealed drawings and construction documents, approving permits, meeting with architects and engineers to review designs, preparing project status reports, assisting with code-related questions, conducting construction site visits and final inspections, and communicating with citizens and stakeholders. Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED with an approved apprentice program or equivalent training, four to six years of experience in the area, registration with LARA as a Building Plan Reviewer within 30 days, a valid driver’s license and personal vehicle insurance, and background check requirements. The role may require irregular hours and travel in the employee’s own vehicle.
Required Qualifications
- Graduation from high school or G.E.D. and completion of an approved apprentice program or equivalent training in assigned area of responsibility
- Four to six years experience related to assigned area of responsibility
- Registration with LARA as a Building plan reviewer within 30 days of employment in the role under Article 10 of Act 407 of 2016
- Requires a valid driver's license and personal vehicle insurance and must maintain eligibility to drive as per the County's Vehicle policy
- A background check may be required initially and periodically for an individual hired, transferred, reclassified, promoted, or currently working in this job
