Job Summary
Senior Commercial HVAC Technician responsible for diagnosing, servicing, repairing, commissioning, and optimizing complex commercial HVAC systems (RTUs, chillers, boilers, cooling towers, VAV, heat pumps, VRF/VRV). Leads on jobsites, mentors junior technicians, and communicates with property managers and engineers. Requires independent work ethic, advanced troubleshooting of electrical and mechanical systems, proficiency with controls and BAS, ability to read schematics and control sequences, and adherence to OSHA/EPA standards. Responsibilities include preventive maintenance, documentation, and providing repair recommendations and estimates, with a focus on safety, quality workmanship, and customer satisfaction.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- EPA Universal Certification
- OSHA-10 (minimum) preferred; OSHA-30 strongly preferred
- State HVAC license or equivalent (where required by jurisdiction)
- 7+ years of commercial HVAC service experience
- Demonstrated experience working independently on complex commercial systems
- Experience mentoring or leading other technicians preferred
- Advanced electrical and mechanical troubleshooting
- Strong refrigeration diagnostics skills
- Proficiency with test instruments (meters, gauges, combustion analyzers, etc.)
- Ability to read and interpret technical documentation and control diagrams
- Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematics, and control sequences
- Commissioning new equipment and verify proper operation per manufacturer specifications
- Perform system balancing assistance and airflow diagnostics
- Physical demands: lift up to 75 lbs
- Work environment: rooftops, mechanical rooms, etc.
