Commercial HVAC Service Technician

Job Summary
Perform troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance on commercial HVAC equipment including RTUs, split systems, VRF/VRV systems, heat pumps, boilers, air handlers, VAV systems, exhaust systems, and energy recovery units. Conduct advanced diagnostics on electrical, refrigeration, and mechanical components while interpreting wiring diagrams, schematics, ladder logic, and sequence-of-operation documentation. Install, repair, and commission control wiring, sensors, actuators, relays, and low-voltage circuits, and interface with Building Automation Systems to troubleshoot communication issues and verify proper sequence of operations. Conduct airflow testing, adjustments, and balancing for commercial HVAC systems using manometers, flow hoods, and anemometers to achieve design specifications. Communicate technical findings clearly to facility managers, contractors, and building owners, preparing accurate service reports and recommendations for controls upgrades and energy-efficiency improvements. Ensure all work meets local codes, safety regulations, and manufacturer specifications.
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years of commercial HVAC service experience
- Strong expertise in control wiring, low-voltage circuits, and control logic
- Demonstrated proficiency in commercial air balancing
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, control diagrams, and airflow specifications
- EPA 608 Certification (Type II or Universal)
- Excellent troubleshooting skills and ability to work independently
- Ability to interface with clients and effectively communicate service/project outcomes and recommendations
- Current driver's license
- Satisfactory driving record
- Insurable to drive to and from assigned jobs
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with common BAS platforms (e.g., Trane, Johnson Controls, Siemens, Honeywell, Carrier)
- OSHA 10/30 safety certification
- Associates degree or technical schooling in HVAC, controls, electronics, or a related field
