Commercial Fishery Dockside Sampler

Job Summary
Dockside Sampler position with A.I.S., Inc. supports NOAA SEFSC Fisheries Statistics Division. The role conducts biological sampling and data collection across coastal areas from North Carolina to Texas, including collecting lengths, weights, and biological samples (primarily otoliths), preparing samples for shipment, and entering data into TIPS/SRHS portals. Responsibilities include following TIP and SRHS protocols, shipping samples to specified laboratories, performing monthly QA/QC audits, assisting with training and outreach, and participating in industry monitoring and reporting activities. Requires a BS degree with three years of relevant experience, proficiency with identification keys, computer literacy, and willingness to travel 100% to coastal dockside sampling locations in the Southeastern U.S.; the position is full-time with a benefits package.
Required Qualifications
- BS Degree plus three (3) years of relevant experience.
- Knowledge of basic concepts, principles, and methodologies of fish or related biological fields sufficient to independently perform scientific tasks.
- Proficient in the use of fish, invertebrate, and protected species identification books and keys.
- Computer literate and experienced with common word processing, database, and graphics programs.
Desired Qualifications
- MS Degree in Marine
- Experience collecting catch and effort information from commercial or recreational fishermen.
- Knowledge of collection of routine biological samples (lengths, age structures, gonads, etc.) from marine fish.
- 100% travel anticipated
- Travel required to coastal dockside sampling locations throughout the Southeastern U.S. (NC to TX).
- Training and conference travel may also be required.
- All travel reimbursed per Federal Travel Regulations.
