Job Summary
Evaluate and underwrite commercial auto submissions by analyzing exposures, loss runs, financial data, risk characteristics, and underwriting documentation. Price and manage new business and renewal commercial auto accounts in accordance with underwriting guidelines and profitability objectives. Assess risk acceptability and determine appropriate terms, conditions, coverage structure, and pricing recommendations. Maintain underwriting files and documentation while ensuring compliance with internal underwriting standards and regulatory requirements. Collaborate with brokers, agents, and internal teams to support underwriting strategy and service objectives. Monitor portfolio performance, market conditions, claim trends, and underwriting profitability. Support process improvement initiatives and contribute to underwriting best practices. The role requires a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, 1+ years of commercial auto underwriting, understanding of P&C principles, CPCU designation or active pursuit, experience with middle-market/broker-facing accounts, ability to analyze submissions and risk exposure, and proficiency with underwriting systems and MS Office.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Risk Management, Insurance, or related field; or equivalent relevant industry experience
- 1+ years of experience in commercial auto underwriting
- Understanding of commercial property and casualty (P&C) insurance principles and risk evaluation
- CPCU designation or active pursuit of CPCU certification
- Experience working with middle-market and/or broker-facing commercial accounts
- Experience analyzing underwriting submissions, loss history, and risk exposure
- Proficiency with underwriting systems, policy management platforms, and Microsoft Office applications
