Job Summary
Read project plans, blueprints, and welding symbols to interpret site specifications and national code requirements. Perform GTAW, SMAW, FACW, and GMAW welds on structural components, duct work, hoppers, and various pipe types including stainless steel, chrome, and carbon. Select proper fillers and prepare welding surfaces per procedure specifications to achieve joint detail. Assist pipe fitters with measurements, material preparation, and installation tasks while communicating hazards and material needs to the foreman. Work under production schedule pressure to attain set standards of accuracy in a safe manner, adhering to all site safety requirements and toolbox meeting participation.
Required Qualifications
- 4+ years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Ability to take direction from a higher skilled worker or foreman
- Basic knowledge of the construction processes involved in heavy industrial construction
- Knowledgeable of MIC Health and Safety programs and project specific regulations
- Ability to work different shifts and overtime as required
- Ability to work within precise standards of accuracy and follow set procedures and standards
- Ability to work up to a 12-hour shift doing hard physical work in varying temperatures and outside conditions
- Physical strength and stamina; Use arms, hands, and legs fully; Push, pull, and frequently lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds
- Stamina to perform this task repetitively and continuously for several hour intervals
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment is required (including but not limited to- safety toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hardhat, vest, etc.)
- Ability to move in and around confined, cluttered, and uneven areas
- Ability to work at heights and must be able to abide by all safety and fall-protection requirements
- See well (either naturally or with correction)
- Hear well (either naturally or with correction)
- Ability to coordinate the use of eyes, hands, and feet
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs
Desired Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED Certification (preferred)
