Job Summary

Assess and repair vehicle damage by disassembling, reassembling, and restoring vehicles to pre-accident condition using cutting guns, plasma cutters, hydraulic jacks, and various hand tools. Hammers out dents, mix filler resins, realign chassis and frames, replace damaged sections and glass, weld parts, and prepare vehicles for factory-specified paint. Plan repair work, prepare cost estimates, and inspect vehicles after repair to ensure correct execution while adhering to labor time guidelines. Work safely in noisy areas with odors, lift up to 30 pounds, and perform repairs requiring bending, stretching, kneeling, and squatting.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Successful completion of technical school program OR a 3-year apprenticeship as an auto body repairer
  • Ability to read job orders and work with very little supervision
  • Ability to work with other repairers within an auto body shop
  • Thorough understanding of methods and procedures to repair vehicle bodies
  • Thorough understanding of how to use tools required for the trade
  • Must be able to work safely in a noisy area with many odors present
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds at times
  • Must be able to visually inspect vehicle damage in a variety of weather conditions
  • Must be able to bend, stretch, kneel, and squat to perform repairs and inspections
