Job Summary
College Success Coach specializing in structured study support for ENG 002 and online coursework. Provide individualized guidance to help students stay on track, schedule and navigate campus learning resources (SCC Learning Assistance Center, Writing Center), help craft professional emails to instructors, and coach students in time management and goal setting. Role is part-time (28 hours/week, Mon-Thu 7:45am-3:15pm) in Sylva, NC, starting August 2024 through end of the 24-25 school year. Responsibilities include mentoring students to develop personalized study plans, attending student support meetings, and assisting students with Moodle and other course platforms. Qualifications emphasize strong communication, organizational skills, confidentiality, and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks in an educational setting.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in an educational setting preferred
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Basic editing skills
- Basic knowledge of the operations of a community college
- Skill in the use of office equipment and technology (copiers, word processing, spreadsheets)
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Demonstrated organizational skills with ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines
- Ability to assess situations and solve problems
- Ability to provide structure and support in a classroom setting
- Maintain a classroom study environment for students assigned to structured study
- Provide individualized support to ensure students stay on track to complete required coursework
- Assist students in scheduling appointments with the SCC Learning Assistance Center and Writing Center
- Assist students in developing clear, professional email communication with college instructors as needed
- Provide mentorship and coaching in developing personalized study plans
- Attend student support meetings with the JCEC Student Support Team
- Assist students in navigating college course platforms (Moodle and others)
- Assist students in understanding course outlines and syllabi
- Train and coach students regarding time management and goal setting/achievement
- Perform other duties as assigned
