Job Summary
Lead 11th- and 12th-grade college seminar courses guiding students through the entire college application process, including exploring careers, identifying post-secondary pathways, writing personal statements, building resumes, securing letters of recommendation, and applying for financial aid and scholarships. Foster a culture of college and career readiness by creating instructional signage, advising on course selection, and planning events such as Career Day, SAT School Day, Senior Signing Day, College Acceptance Forums, College Visits, and Alumni Day. Collaborate with parents to host informational workshops and individual meetings; participate in Uncommon PD and regional conferences; build relationships with college admissions offices to facilitate admissions and financial aid; support planning and execution of college visits and information sessions for students of all grade levels. Demonstrate initiative, flexibility, and strong interpersonal skills; leverage data to drive improvements in the college counseling process; proficient in Microsoft Office, Naviance, and PowerSchool.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree is required; Master’s degree preferred
- Minimum of two years experience in an urban district or charter school setting
- Prior experience working with high school students and families in an urban setting
- Ability to collaborate with parents and families
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Skilled in data-driven improvements in college counseling
- Experience with college admissions processes and financial aid
- Proficiency with Naviance and PowerSchool
- Strong organizational and event-planning abilities
- Commitment to equity and serving BIPOC students
