Job Summary
The College and Career Counselor provides comprehensive college, career, and postsecondary planning guidance to high school students, coordinates PSAT/AP testing, assists with FAFSA and financial aid, develops college and career resources, and builds partnerships with colleges, employers, and community organizations. Responsibilities include counseling students individually and in groups on college admissions, career pathways, and workforce opportunities; organizing college representative visits, college fairs, and postsecondary information sessions; promoting co-ops, internships, job shadowing, and other work-based learning; ensuring testing logistics and security for PSAT/NMSQT and AP programs; analyzing participation and outcomes data to improve programs; and engaging families through workshops while aligning activities with district goals. Preferred experience with College Board assessments and planning platforms (e.g., Naviance, Scoir, SchoolBrains) and knowledge of FAFSA and scholarship programs. This grant-funded, full-time role operates at Medford High School with a schedule aligned to the school day (7:40 AM – 3:00 PM).
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in School Counseling
- Massachusetts School Counselor licensure
- 5+ years experience working with secondary students in a school setting
- Knowledge of college admissions processes, financial aid systems, and career development practices
