Job Summary
Collector I - Retail Loan Collections monitors and collects on delinquent loans across various portfolios, negotiates workout programs, coordinates with legal counsel and debt management, processes extensions and due-date changes, and manages claims related to total loss and insurance programs. Responsibilities include initiating collection calls and notices, probing causes of delinquency, reinstating or taking adverse action, preparing monthly loan reports, handling bankruptcy-related matters with attorneys/trustees, updating borrower files in systems, coordinating with other departments on repossessions and loan modifications, and ensuring accurate payment applications. The role requires thorough understanding of repossession processes, titles and DMV-related functions, and professional communication to internal/external customers. Proficiency with electronic cash management and ACH/Credit Card payments is expected.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED equivalency required
- 1+ years of experience in Collections
- Knowledge of FDCPA, FCRA, GLBA, SCRA and Bankruptcy laws
- Ability to operate standard office equipment (phone, copier, PC)
- Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds
- Clear verbal and written communication with internal and external customers
- Experience with skip chasing, payment applications including ACH and Credit Cards
